Bad Bunny is closing out 2020 by making Billboard history. The 26-year-old rapper is officially the first person to have an all-Spanish album hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
His album, El Ultimo Tour del Mundo, which means “The Last Tour of the World” in English, debuted atop the Billboard 200. El Ultimo is not just Bad Bunny’s first number one, this marks the first time that an all-Spanish language album topped the chart throughout its 64-year history.
In addition, Bad Bunny’s third studio effort is just the fourth all-Spanish album to make it into the Billboard top five. The prior being his second studio effort YHLQMDLG, which peaked at number two, as well as Mana‘s 2006 album Amar es Combatir and Shakira‘s 2005 effort Fijación Oral: Vol. 1 — both of which peaked at number four.
There are two mostly-Spanish language albums to hit the top spot, that being Il Divo‘s 2006 album Ancora and Selena‘s 1995 effort Dreaming of You.
Lastly, Bad Bunny officially becomes the second artist of 2020 to log three top 10 albums this year, joining the ranks alongside YoungBoy Never Broke Again.
El Ultimo Tour del Mundo moved 116,000 units in its first week of release, which consists of the album’s songs being streamed 145.94 million times and 12,000 physical album sales.
