Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County now Accepting Applications for New Home Ownership!

The annual campaign to invite families in need throughout Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and Boca Raton is underway. Habitat's mission is to provide simple, decent, affordable housing for low income families by working in partnership with those families. In 2010, Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County will complete and dedicate 12 homes to deserving families.
Applying for a Habitat home is a thorough and detailed process. Homes are awarded on the basis of need, ability to pay a monthly no-profit, no-interest mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat. Qualifications and housing need will be compared to that of other applicants.
Habitat for Humanity is not a short-term solution to housing problems. They rely on volunteers to plan and construct homes; as a result, the process of obtaining a habitat home can range from months to years.

Moving into a Habitat home is a milestone achievement for hundreds of families throughout our community. The guiding principle of the Habitat Family Support Program is empowering through education, resources and ongoing, individualized support. We partner with Palm Beach County residents who have a strong desire to invest in the process of obtaining a home, and thereby improve their quality of life.

Collect School Supplies for Do Something.org!

More than 13 million kids cannot afford basic school supplies for back to school.  For the third year, DoSomething.org, a national non-profit organization, is engaged in motivating teens (13-19) to get involved, take action and “do something” to help their fellow teens succeed in school.

With help from Twilight’s Nikki Reed, DoSomething.org and Staples will arm youth and teens with the tools and resources they need to make a difference in their community this summer. Teens are encouraged to collect school supplies to ensure they get into the hands of thousands of deserving kids just in time to head back to school. All school supplies will be donated locally to educational and not-for-profit organizations that serve disadvantaged youth. Donations are being accepted from July 4th-September 18th!

Walgreens Send A Kid to Camp Program!

Area Walgreens stores will offer Summer Camp Mobiles and coupons to their customers for a $1 or a $5 donation from August 1st through Labor Day. All proceeds from the “Send a Kid to Camp” promotion will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
For a $1 or $5 contribution to the MDA, customers can put their name on a bright and festive Summer Camp mobile that is displayed in the store. Customers will also receive coupons for different Walgreens products with the purchase of the mobile. Walgreens’ District Managers Vily Markovich and Lazar Jones agree, “ This is an easy opportunity for every citizen to make a difference in someone’s life.” Jones adds, “It is a simple, inexpensive way for each individual in every town to combine their efforts and make a large contribution as a community.” Walgreens is proactive in the local communities, and their employees will be working hard on the “Send a Kid to Camp” program to send local children living with neuromuscular diseases to MDA Summer Camp.
The funds raised through the summer mobile program directly help local families affected by diseases such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Summer Mobiles also help support the MDA’s worldwide research program, as well as the national network of 225 hospital-affiliated clinics, including the MDA Clinic at the Jupiter Medical Center.
The MDA is grateful to Walgreens for their support of this program and encourages all local citizens to stop by their nearest Walgreens store to purchase a mobile, receive a coupon, and help partner with the community to send local children with neuromuscular diseases to MDA Summer Camp.
The MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat muscular dystrophy through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education. To learn more about Summer Camp Mobiles and other MDA programs, contact the local MDA office at 561-742-3748.
