NFL-STYLE DRAFT PAIRS MIAMI DOLPHINS LEGENDS WITH LOCAL CHEFS FOR “JOHN OFFERDAHL’S BROWARD HEALTH® GRIDIRON GRILL-OFF FOOD, WINE & TAILGATE FESTIVAL”

 Twenty-five Miami Dolphins legends were paired with top South Florida chefs September 10 during an NFL-style draft and official kick-off celebration for “John Offerdahl’s Broward Health® Gridiron Grill-Off Food, Wine & Tailgate Festival” at Council Oak Steaks & Seafood at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood. These dynamic duos will face off in the fourth annual culinary competition for charity on Sat., Nov. 9 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater, 1806 N.E. 6th Street, Pompano Beach. 


“I am absolutely overwhelmed with the caliber of talented athletes and chefs signed on to participate in this year’s competition,” said Offerdahl, event founder and former Miami Dolphins All-Pro Linebacker. “It has been four years since I created this unique charitable event to help feed the needs of kids in crisis, and I continue to appreciate the unwavering support of the local community.”

Each team will be tasked with creating one fine-dining, grilled signature dish that will be sampled by event guests and judges during the Grand Grill-Off.  One pair will be recognized with the People’s Choice Award, while one team will be selected by a panel of esteemed judges to receive the coveted Critic’s Choice Award.  It will be a food lover’s event with past menu items such as #69 Sims’ BBQ Swordfish, #25 Oliver’s Sea scallops wrapped with Prosciutto and New York Strip steak, #85 “Super Duper’s” Skirt Steak, #23 Stradford’s Pork Belly Lettuce Wraps, #40 Anderson’s Grilled Lobster Roll and #91 Cross’s Mahi Mahi Tacos to be paired with a selection of Kendall-Jackson wines.

“This event is one-of-a-kind, giving me the chance to reconnect with some of my former teammates for a fun competition, while helping give back to the community,” said Troy Stradford, former Miami Dolphin and winner of the 2012 Grand Grill-Off.  “As the reigning champ, I am ready to get back on the grill and bring home another trophy.”

Adding to the excitement, South Florida’s first-ever EGGfest presented by Smithfield Foodservice will feature Big Green Egg enthusiasts from across the country, looking to show off their skills on the iconic outdoor grill.  A $25 admission fee gives EGGfest attendees the chance to enjoy food samples, plus all of the other great fun and entertainment as part of the Tailgate Zone.

Others will enjoy the Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Tailgate Zone, which will engage football fans with a spirited cornhole and bean bag competition. Guests of this free admission part of the event can view current University of Florida, Florida State University and University of Miami football games at the Budweiser Build-a-Bar.

The day’s festivities will culminate in a live concert from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring national country music artist Lee Brice.

Tickets for the Grand Grill-Off are $75 each (age 21+), EGGfest tickets cost $25 each, concert tickets will start at $20 each and the Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Tailgate Zone is free and open to the public.  All event net proceeds from this culinary showdown will benefit Offerdahl’s Hand-Off Foundation, which directs funds to agencies that “feed the needs of kids in crisis” including 4KIDS of South Florida, HOPE South Florida, Here’s Help, Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association and the Miami Dolphins Foundation.
