BOCA CHURCH OFFERS RELIEF FOR THE PAIN AT THE PUMP
The Journey Church to Give 50 Cents Off Per Gallon Saturday, March 9
With record-breaking gasoline prices across South Florida, area drivers are paying more than ever to fill their tanks. But for two hours on Saturday, March 9, The Journey Church of Boca Raton is offering help in the form of $0.50 off per gallon.
The Journey’s “Gas Buy Down” will take place Saturday, March 9, 11:00am - 1:00pm, at the Valero Gas Station located at 1380 N. Federal Highway in Boca Raton (just north of Glades Road).
The church will buy down the price of gas by $0.50/gallon for as many people as possible during the two hour time frame between 11:00am and 1:00pm, giving drivers the opportunity to take advantage of the lowest gasoline prices in the region.
“We’re always looking for opportunities to share God’s love in practical ways,” said Nelson Searcy, Lead Pastor of The Journey Church. “And with gas prices higher than ever, this seemed like a great way to offer a break to the people of our community.”
Volunteers from the two year old church will be on hand to wash windshields, pump gas and give a break to the wallets of members of the community.
“I think this is a great example of how the church can make a real difference in people’s lives,” said Journey member Patrick Leonard. “I’m excited to be a part of it.”
The Journey is a new church in Boca Raton, featuring services each Sunday with casual dress, rockin’ music and practical teaching. This community outreach opportunity connects nicely with their upcoming Easter teaching series about Coming Face to Face with God's Grace.
The Gas Buy Down is far from the first time The Journey will be serving the community. In its first two years, The Journey has successfully partnered with Boca Helping Hands and 4KIDS of South Florida on outreach projects. Searcy says the church is “always on the lookout for creative ways to make a difference in people’s lives.”
The Journey Church is a casual, contemporary, Christian church that meets each Sunday at 10:30am, at Boca Raton Community High School (Just off Glades Road at I-95, exit 45). Since its beginning in February, 2011, The Journey has grown to a congregation of several hundred that meet each week.
