The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center in collaboration with the Military Order of the Purple Heart will hold an event on August 8, 2014 from 11:00 A.M. – 12 Noon to honor our local World War II Veterans and promote awareness for the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II next year. The Spirit of ’45 Day Express will be visiting the medical center at this time on the upper parking deck of the medical center by the west entrance. The Express has traveled more than 25,000 miles since February to honor the legacy of our Greatest Generation by keeping their spirit alive. The public and especially our World War II Veterans are welcome to attend.
In 2010, Congress unanimously passed Concurrent Resolution 226 calling for a national “Spirit of ’45 Day” to be observed on the second Sunday in August to honor the men and women who were the ordinary heroes of the World War II era. The stated purpose of the Spirit of '45 campaign is "to preserve the legacy of the men and women of the Greatest Generation so that their example of courage, self-sacrifice, 'can-do' attitude and commitment to community can help inspire a renewal of national unity in America."
