The Jensen Beach Community Playground Committee is seeking volunteers and tool donations to get the new playground built at Jensen Beach Elementary. The build runs from 8am to 8 pm from April 29 through May 4.
A variety of volunteer positions are available from working the childcare and food stations to actually building the playground. Morning, afternoon and evening shifts are available. There is no minimum number of hours required to participate.
Tools such as tape measures (100 feet in length), chisel sets (¼- 1 ½ inches) and more are also needed to get the playground built. Tools are guaranteed to be returned to their owners in the same condition as received.
For a complete list of tools that are needed to build the playground, visit www.JBPlayground.com. Tools can be dropped at Jensen Beach Elementary on Wednesday, April 23 from 5-8 pm or Saturday, April 26 from 8am – 1 pm.
The new playground, designed by Leathers & Associates, was created based on sketches submitted by Jensen Beach children depicting their dreams for the new play area. JBE is a hub school for Martin County’s Autism Spectrum Disorder Unit.
The playground design incorporates many features that meet the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations, including wheelchair accessible groundcover, therapeutic swings, activity panels, accessible parallel bars and telephone systems. The custom play space will provide outlets that help correct developmental delays and play opportunities for children of all abilities.
Once constructed, the playground will be open to the public after school hours and on the weekends. Located within walking and biking distance for most families in the Jensen Beach community, the new playground will provide a space for children to play safely.
